President Paul Kagame said that those who were hired by the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) to attack Rwanda could have faced serious consequences as they continued fighting
President Paul Kagame announced this in his evening speech of the liberation (Kwibohora) celebration held this Friday, July 4, 2025.
He revisited the Liberation struggle and the stopping of the Genocide against the Tutsi, which was planned and executed by a bad government.
He spoke about the FDLR group made up of those who committed the Genocide against the Tutsi, who continue to be supported by the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo and have a plan to attack Rwanda, saying that it will never succeed. He said: “Even today they should know it , just like they knew it back then, we will face them.”
The Head of State immediately returned to the defense strategies that Rwanda has intensified, saying that they have nothing to do with what is always said, that they aim to steal mineral resources from the DRC but rather that those who accuse Rwanda are the ones doing it.
Those powerful countries that often intimidate countries like Rwanda, and even put pressure on people including himself, stop him from speaking.
“They say if Kagame speaks, they will take him.. Take me where? Remove me from where?
They end up threatening with the sanctions imposed on some senior officers in Rwanda’s military, and he says that these are simply “ignorance” that cannot even bring a solution to the problems they talk about.
He tackled the longstanding problems in the Democratic Republic of Congo, of harming Congolese citizens who speak Kinyarwanda, especially those from the Tutsi ethnic group, saying that the world has always looked on in silence.
But it didn’t stop there. The Congolese government recruited European mercenaries, as well as soldiers from some European countries who were on SADC missions.
He said “They sent weapons, they sent guns, soldiers, they sent everything in order to support the government that is killing its own people and to support Genocidaires who killed our own people here. Over one million people were killed in one hundred days by those same people and sometimes they are supported by these people who give lessons.”
Still, it didn’t stop there. They started setting up military bases near the border between DRC and Rwanda aiming to attack Rwanda. He said: “If you knew the stories of what was found in Goma, Bukavu and elsewhere, you would understand it. You would understand that the issue was not fighting the AFC/M23, It was aimed at Rwanda. Go and ask them what happened. What happened was only a fraction of what we could do.”
He said that the same people you have been seeing after making sure that they cannot do any harm to us, we gave them a route passing through here to go back home, we gave them passage, we gave them security and made sure they went back home.
He continued by saying: “But they could have perished if they really put up a fight, there’s no question about it, I’m saying it now and for tomorrow, if anybody attempts, you will see it.”
The Head of State said “it happened to us once and once is too many, it will not happen again”
President Paul Kagame also referred to those who often speak about their power and capacity to threaten this capital where we are now.
He said “We told them, we may not have that capacity ourselves, we will find you there, we have the capacity you don’t know. We can walk two thousand kilometers from here, fighting, if and when we have to fight. The rest are just stories, these people who tell you nonsense that they have drones, they have what, they will come and attack Rwanda, we will find you where you are launching those drones from.”
The Head of State said that this talk has been going on for a long time and it was simply saying there is no need to attack us or threaten us because this country wishes them no harm. He said “If you can’t cooperate with us, leave us alone. Those who say they won’t give us their money, yes it’s your money, give it to whoever you want. You will not find a place that puts your money to good use more than we do. You have a right to ask me where we put your money, I will show you the roads, schools and hospitals. But when it’s to give your money willingly and then come pointing fingers at me, I will tell you what you didn’t want to hear.”
President Kagame said that Rwanda has continued to wish well to its neighboring countries and to cooperate well with its partners, but that it cannot accept anything that would destabilize it, because it has enough capacity to deal with it and to free itself from any kind of disrespect it might be subjected to.
