The Minister of Sports, Nelly Mukazayire, received basketball player Nate Ament, a rising talent in the United States with Rwandan roots, and told him that Rwandans are behind him and proud of him.
Nate Ament, 18, whose mother is Rwandan, is one of the most promising young players in the United States. He was recently ranked among the top 100 young players, placing fourth on the list.
On Wednesday, August 13, 2025, Minister of Sports Nelly Mukazayire received this basketball talent and his family, who had come to Rwanda, and shared a dinner with them.
While hosting him at the table, Minister Mukazayire and Nate Ament had a conversation in which he expressed his joy at visiting Rwanda and the warm welcome he received. He said, “Everyone has been so welcoming, it truly feels like home to me.”
He told the Minister that during his time in Rwanda, he engaged in various activities, including playing basketball with others and touring different parts of the country rich in beauty. He added, “Honestly, it was nothing but pure joy.”
Minister Mukazayire, in turn, thanked Nate Ament, saying: “We are happy to welcome you here at home. We are family, we are behind you, Nate. Keep working hard and know that achieving success is in your hands.”
Nate Ament recently joined the USA Men’s Under-18 National Team in the 2024 FIBA U-18 Americas Championship, a tournament his team went on to win.
