President Paul Kagame has praised the strong ties between Rwanda and Egypt, saying the partnership continues to benefit both nations, especially Rwanda’s health sector.
During his visit to Egypt, Kagame met with President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi and thanked Egypt for its role in Rwanda’s development. He said: “We are working together to build a modern hospital that treats heart diseases. This is an important project because it will help increase the number of specialists treating heart diseases in Rwanda and beyond. Egypt is also continuing to train Rwandans working in the health sector.”
He added that Rwanda aims to provide affordable, advanced healthcare, noting: “We also partnered with other stakeholders to build a vaccine manufacturing plant. Egypt’s health sector as well as its investors are supporting us in this endeavor. We want this to go beyond the current level. The fact that Rwanda and Egypt exchanged land is very important, because it will help our countries access wider regional markets.”
Kagame recalled his 2022 visit to Cairo, saying: “The agreements signed today will build on the long-standing relations between Rwanda and Egypt, and will deliver mutual benefits in various sectors. The COVID-19 pandemic reminded us that we are closer to each other than ever before, and showed that no single country can deal with a global challenge alone. That is why working together is essential. Continuing to seek new areas of collaboration is crucial to reviving our economies and building resilience against future challenges.”
Recent milestones include a $3.3 million agreement in 2024 to build a heart treatment hospital in Masaka, cooperation in transport and trade, and military collaboration agreed upon in June 2025. Rwanda also granted Egypt 10 hectares of land in Kirehe for trade facilities.
The two nations have cooperated since 1976 in sectors like agriculture, youth, industry, energy, education, health, and technology.
