President Paul Kagame said Rwanda was honored to host the UCI Road World Championship, the first ever held on the African continent. He thanked the riders for their achievements, the organizers for making the event possible, and Rwandans for giving visitors a warm welcome.
On Sunday, September 28, 2025, The UCI Road World Championship held in Kigali, Rwanda came to an end with the final men’s elite race, which was won by the world’s number one rider, Slovenia’s Tadej Pogačar.
When this famous rider reached the finish line to claim the gold medal, he found a lot of people from different parts of the world gathered together at Kigali Convention Center to watch the event.
President Paul Kagame is one of the people who watched the rider reach the finish line of the championship, and he is the one who awarded the gold medal to Tadej Pogačar.
In his message, President Paul Kagame said that Rwanda is honored to receive this historic competition, he also thanked all the riders, organizers and Rwandans in general that showed a warm welcome to the participants.
He said “ Rwanda is proud to have hosted this historic UCI Road World Championship. I congratulate all the riders who competed across our capital city for their remarkable achievements and resilience.
Head of the state proceeded saying that “My sincere appreciation to my friend, David Lappartient, The UCI team, our partners, the security organs who kept the race route secure and the people of Rwanda whose energy and support made #Kigali2025, truly unforgettable.
The UCI Road World Championship took place in Kigali, which was its very first time on the African Continent, it was attended by 918 riders from 110 countries.
