Rwanda Government Spokesperson, Yolande Makolo, has said that it is time for the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) to stop spreading lies which she stated have now reached an extreme level.
Her statement followed accusations by DRC’s Government Spokesperson claiming that Rwanda had violated the Washington peace agreement.
This came after Patrick Muyaya, Congo’s Minister of Communication and Government Spokesperson, announced on Tuesday, December 09,2025, that Rwanda was allegedly going against the commitments made in the recent Washington D.C peace agreement signed by Heads of State.
During a press briefing held shortly after Congo’s Prime Minister Judith Suminwa Tuluka met with officials including the Minister of Defense, Muyaya claimed without evidence that rockets had been fired from Bugarama in Rwanda into DRC territory where civilians reside.
However, the resident of Kamanyola, who recently fled into Rwanda, confirmed that the explosions that forced them to flee originated from Burundi, allegedly launched by the Burundian army which has been working along side Congolese forces in a campaign targeting Congolese civilians in the eastern region of the country.
In the same briefing, Muyaya further claimed that Rwanda is blatantly violating the recent signed Washington agreement and that such actions put the entire region at risk. He also alleged that Rwanda had now joined Burundi in a mission similar to what he claims Rwanda previously did in DRC.
Rwanda has repeatedly rejected these accusations, calling them false and baseless, and maintains that it is committed to fulfilling the obligations of any agreement it signs.
Muyaya also stated that Congo is ready to alert mediators of the issues it claims Rwanda is causing, inorder for them to intervene and restore peace in the eastern DRC.
Responding to these allegations, Rwanda’s Government Spokesperson Yolande Makolo, wrote through X (formerly Twitter) that DRC has gone too far with misinformation and continuous deception presented to the world.
She stated: “Enough with the lies. DRC cannot be the ceasefire monitor when you are in reality violating the ceasefire and have no intention of respecting the Washington Accords the DRC just signed.”
When the agreement was signed, President Paul Kagame reaffirmed that Rwanda is prepared to honor everything it committed to in the accord. He however emphasized that Rwanda will continue to prioritize its own national security, knowing the importance of peace, based on the lessons Rwanda has learned from its own history.
