The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, said there is nothing unusual about President Paul Kagame not personally attending the African Union Assembly and being represented by the Prime Minister, noting that he was not the only Head of State who didn’t attend in person.
Minister Nduhungirehe made the remarks in a message posted on X this Tuesday, while responding to Jeune Afrique journalist Romain Gras. The Journalist has stated that “Absent from the African Union Summit, President Paul Kagame was in the United States this weekend, where he attended the ALL-Star Game.”
Ambassador Nduhungirehe replied that there was nothing surprising about President Paul Kagame not attending the Assembly held last week.
He said, “President Paul Kagame did not personally participate in the 39th session of the African Union Conference, just like nearly half of African heads of state.”
Nduhungirehe further explained that at the African Union Assembly, President Kagame was represented by Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Justin Nsengiyumva. He added, “So, nothing new under the sun.”
Rwanda’s Prime Minister, Dr. Nsengiyumva, who represented President Kagame, met with other dignitaries who attended the African Union Assembly, including Heads of State such as William Ruto of Kenya and Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah of Namibia.
