Amb. Wellars Gasamagera has been named a Senator in Rwanda’s Senate representing the National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations replacing the late Senator Donatilla Mukabalisa.
The National Consultative Forum of Political Organizations selected Gasamagera as its representative in Parliament. He will take the seat previously held by Senator Donatilla Mukabalisa who died on July 30 2026.
Mukabalisa, who died after an illness, was one of the senators representing the Forum.
Gasamagera will represent the Forum in the Senate and serve the remainder of Mukabalisa’s term.
Amb. Gasamagera was elected by the Forum after being nominated by RPF-Inkotanyi where he is a member and previously served in the party’s senior leadership. RPF-Inkotanyi is one of the political organisations represented in the Forum.
Frank Habineza spokesperson of the Forum said Amb. Gasamagera was the only candidate nominated for the position. He said members had agreed that when only one candidate was presented the person would be elected unanimously.
“We all immediately elected him unanimously,” Habineza said.
Following his election by the Forum Gasamagera’s file will be submitted to the Supreme Court for review and approval before he formally takes up his seat in the Senate.
Gasamagera previously served in the senior leadership of RPF-Inkotanyi including as Secretary General from 2023 until December 2025 when Christophe Bazivamo took over the position. Official RPF records confirm that the handover took place on December 22 2025.
He also held senior positions in Rwanda and previously served as the country’s Ambassador to Angola.
