Normally the 20s are considered as the years where growth, transformation and many more changes happens. This usually goes like that because it is the period in which parents start to let you choose and decide some of your decisions that mainly regard your day-to-day life.
We are going to go through different challenges and benefits that people face in their 20s and how they can possibly go about them.
The main benefits would be:
Freedom and Independence, like we said in the above paragraphs, your 20s are a period where your parents or guardians let you or allows you the freedom to choose different things so it is considered as the years of independence and freedom to choose anything. However, it requires a little bit of being careful, since you get to choose who your friends can be, what you can do as an occupation and many more.
Self- discovery, your 20s are a period where you discover who you really were before and what you want to be in the present or the coming future. This is usually a big deal that forms and transforms a person into a better person and throughout this process of growing and self-discovery, a person would some times grow into someone that they wouldn’t be proud of.
Career foundation, like we said in the previous points, in your 20s you get to decide what you want to do. It is a period of forming your career, more like what you want to invest in, work in as an occupation. Also, you get to decide this throughout what you learnt at school. In Rwanda, you start with the ordinally level which includes all lessons that are basically learnt, throughout you definitely have what you find more interesting. Ordinary level is usually three years of studies and then after that you go for the advanced level, which is mostly selected basing on what you passed more and that is mostly what you are so much interested or focused on. This is the root of forming a career.
Learning from mistakes, from reading this, it would look like it is a negative thing but indeed this is a positive thing that is even essential while growing. Making mistakes is one thing but learning from them is an effective way of growing since you are able to know what went throughout your growing phase and then work on it to being your best version. Also, throughout this remember to always give yourself grace because it is definitely your first time living.
Let’s proceed with the challenges met throughout this process of growing in your 20s.
Pressure, 20s come with so much pressure from your friends, your family, the one from friends is mostly feeling like you have to step up to their level, if they are in front of you regarding a good job, a good house or even good relationship and from the parents and family, mostly when you get in your late 20s, they start questioning you regarding marital life and this puts you in so much pressure to do or be what they are asking for.
Financial struggles, in the first points, we talked about being independent, where we said that once you hit your 20s, you have all the independence, this affects you in a way that you won’t ask for some things from your parents. You rather have to struggle and get them on your own. Some days will be good, some days will be real struggle to get what you want and that is where the financial struggles kick in.
Fear of missing out (FOMO), Like we’ve seen in the past points, when you get in your 20s, you are most of the times going to have the fear of missing out, which is like catching up to where your mates are. This fear kicks in as a comparison of what others have that you don’t have.
Relationship’s confusion, 20s are the years where you have to start getting into knowing people which sometimes turns out like meeting the wrong people, getting hurt throughout that process, this is a thing that shouldn’t be pressured at all because rushing into it without carefully learning and knowing the person would lead you into bad terms.
20s bring both negative and positive impacts in our lives because those are your years of growth and getting shaped into the person you would be for the rest of your life. The best weapon to go through all this is by being yourself, taking your time to make hard decisions, working to be your best version not anybody else’s version and with all that everything will absolutely go smoothly.
