Rwanda has conveyed a message of support and solidarity to the State of Qatar following a missile attack launched by Iran on the Al Udeid Air Base, a major U.S. military installation in Qatar.
On Tuesday, June 24, 2025, Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Olivier Nduhungirehe, held a telephone conversation with his Qatar counterpart, His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi. The conversation was confirmed in an official statement released by Rwanda’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The statement read: “Minister Olivier Nduhungirehe held a telephone conversation with His Excellency Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Khulaifi, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar.”
During the call, Minister Nduhungirehe expressed Rwanda’s concern over the attack and emphasized the country’s strong condemnation of the missile strike. He reassured the Qatari government of Rwanda’s unwavering support during this period of heightened tension in the region.
The Ministry added: “During the conversation, Minister Nduhungirehe expressed Rwanda’s support and solidarity with Qatar and condemned the recent missile attack on Al Udeid Air Base, which violated the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.”
The missile attack occurred on the evening of Monday, June 23, 2025, when Iran launched a barrage of missiles targeting Al Udeid Air Base in response to what it claimed were U.S. strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities. The base is known to host U.S. and allied forces and plays a key strategic role in regional military operations.
In the wake of the attack, U.S. President Donald Trump addressed the incident, assuring the public that the missile strike had little impact. He stated: “Out of the 14 missiles launched, 13 were intercepted, and the remaining one posed no threat and was ignored.” Trump also confirmed that there were no American casualties or injuries resulting from the attack.
Rwanda and Qatar maintain a strong and growing bilateral relationship, including cooperation in various sectors such as defense and security. The Rwandan government’s message underscores its commitment to peaceful diplomacy and support for partners facing acts of aggression.
