The Embassy of the United States of America in Burundi has announced that the country has temporarily suspended visas for all Burundians due to repeated violations of regulations.
This was announced by the U.S. Embassy in Burundi in a statement released on Monday, August 4, 2025. The statement says, “Every Burundian who travels carries the hopes of their family and community. Respecting visa rules isn’t just personal, it is national. Sadly, due to repeated violations, U.S. visas for Burundians are temporarily banned. Let us uphold the rules, because one person’s actions can close doors for an entire nation. Together, we must protect future opportunities for all.”
The statement continues, “Sadly, due to repeated violations of these regulations, the United States has temporarily suspended issuing visas to Burundians.”
The U.S. Embassy in Burundi further urges all Burundians to comply with these regulations because, “what one person does can shut doors for an entire nation. Together, we can protect the opportunities of a shared future for all.”
In March of this year, the United States listed 43 countries whose citizens could potentially lose eligibility for visas to the U.S., giving a 60-day period to resolve issues that were deemed to threaten U.S. interests.
Among these countries, 11 were to face strict sanctions, and a group of 10 countries was at risk of temporarily losing visa privileges.
