Joseph Kabila Kabange, the former president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, delivered a message to the Congolese people, stating that he can’t sit back and watch their country being destroyed by the current government, therefore, he has to use his experience to bring the nation back on track and he is ready to lead again.
This message that he delivered on Sunday, 14 September 2025, was awaited by a lot of Congolese, they wanted to know what’s on mind of this politician who led their country.
Joseph Kabila mentioned that he let go of leadership in peace in accordance to the constitution, but a lot of people thought his politician journey ended there. He said “ But today, I want to tell you that “it was a break”.
He kept on saying that he saw all the issues that arose since leaving his leadership, including “agreements left unfulfilled, discrimination, and growing injustices. Those who succeeded me have brought neither peace nor development.” left unfulfilled, discrimination, and growing injustices. Those who succeeded me have brought neither peace nor development.”
He added “ I can’t continue to sit back and watch this. That’s why I publicly announce that I’m going to proceed with leading this country. Not because of me, but to rather put a stable government, so as to protect every Congolese and that our economy would be of benefits to our children.”
Kabila mentioned that some might criticize that he wants to take over the leadership, “but I will reply to them that : I’m back because Congo is in danger and because I have experience and strength to help it.”
He also called all Congolese to unite, inorder to bring back their country into safe hands. He said “ I’m not scared of criticism, and I’m not worried about threats. What I put in front is that Congo will arise again. I’m coming. And I’m here till citizens gain the dignity they deserve.”
Joseph Kabila returned to a Congo in the end of May this year, where he directly went to Goma, in the areas controlled by AFC/M23. Since his arrival in Congo, he welcomed different groups, to understand their ideas so as to get a starting point to put in action his goal of getting back this country on track like he mentioned.
This comes while the government of this country has not made things easy for him, given that he has been facing trials on serious crimes, including betraying the country, where as he’s accused of collaborating with AFC/M23, and the prosecution requested for a death penalty, his verdict was supposed to be read this last week, but it was postponed.
