In the annual competition celebrating the exceptional quality of Rwandan coffee, coffee produced by a company based in Huye District was sold for $88.18 per kilogram (approximately 129,000 Rwandan Francs) at an international auction, setting a remarkable new record.
This was announced by the National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB), which revealed that the top 20 coffees in the 2025 Rwandan Cup of Excellence-style competition were selected from 316 entries.
This second edition of the competition saw the top 20 coffees chosen by national-level coffee cuppers.
NAEB stated: “The coffee from K-Organics Ltd, a company operating in Huye District in the Southern Province, was sold at $88.18 per kilogram (129,000 RWF/kg), achieving the highest price through an international electronic auction held on October 8, 2025.”
The institution further explained: “This price is 14 times higher than the average price of other coffees sold this year.”
Karangwa Evariste, the representative of K-Organics Ltd in Huye, expressed his joy over this record-breaking sale, where he said “I am truly honored to have my coffee receive the highest bid. This achievement is a testament to the hard work and dedication we put into producing quality coffee. This recognition will allow me to invest in coffee farming activities, hence ensuring even higher quality coffee in the future and improve my community’s livelihood through coffee”
The results of this competition are a testament to the strong collaboration across the coffee value chain and the uniqueness of Rwandan coffee on the global market.
Claude Bizimana, the Director General of NAEB, emphasized this by saying: “Today’s achievement is a reminder of the potential we hold when we work together as a community, producers, exporters, and consumers, driving quality and sustainability. Each bid is not only a recognition but also an investment in the future of our coffee sector. We express our gratitude to all international buyers who participated in the Best of Rwanda online auction, contributing to the global recognition of our premium coffee.”
This annual Rwandan Coffee Excellence Competition, now in its second edition, is organized to celebrate farmers, processors, and exporters for their dedication to producing high-quality coffee and to further promote Rwandan coffee on the international stage.
