A group of former soldiers from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), including those who were injured in combat, have arrived in Rwanda for a one-week visit. Upon their arrival, they said that, based on what they had seen so far, Rwanda is the most beautiful country in Africa.
Their visit began on Tuesday, November 25th, when they landed at Kigali International Airport in Kanombe. They will spend a full week in the country.
Speaking to the media at the airport, the former IDF soldiers said that from their first impressions, Rwanda stands out as the most beautiful country on the African continent.
During their stay, they will visit various sites in Rwanda and interact with Rwandans on different topics. These discussions will mainly focus on unity and resilience—values that helped Rwanda rebuild after the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, and which also hold special meaning for the visitors.
On Tuesday evening, the former Israeli soldiers are expected to visit the Kigali Genocide Memorial in Gisozi, where more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi are laid to rest. They will learn about Rwanda’s history and how the country has rebuilt itself after the tragedy.
Their itinerary also includes visiting Volcanoes National Park, where they will see mountain gorillas and other attractions the park offers.
They will also engage in different sports activities, including basketball, supported by various Rwandan security institutions throughout their visit.
