A suspected soldier from the Democratic Republic of Congo Armed Forces (FARDC) shot and killed three fighters belonging to the Wazalendo militia following a dispute in Luberike Groupement, Walikale Territory, North Kivu Province.
The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 10, in Mungazi, within the Luberike Groupement, where the three victims, all members of the Wazalendo militia, lost their lives.
According to sources from the area, the clash was triggered by a disagreement between the FARDC soldier and a group of Wazalendo fighters. The argument reportedly started over an issue that has not yet been clearly identified.
During the confrontation, the soldier opened fire on the fighters, killing three of them on the spot. Reports indicate that the incident became known a few hours later after residents heard gunshots, which also caused panic among people living in the area.
The suspected shooter was later arrested by fellow soldiers and is currently in the custody of military authorities for questioning.
The three Wazalendo fighters were buried this Wednesday morning in the same area.
Tensions between FARDC soldiers and Wazalendo fighters have occurred several times before. In 2025, two other clashes between soldiers in Mungazi resulted in deaths and injuries.
