Rwanda’s Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, together with the Chief of Defence Staff of the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF), Gen. Mubarakh Muganga, held discussions with the Israeli Ambassador to Rwanda focused on strengthening military cooperation between the two countries.
The meeting took place on Wednesday, March 11, 2026, according to Rwanda’s Ministry of Defence, and was held at the Ministry’s headquarters in Kimihurura, Gasabo District, in the City of Kigali.
In a statement, the Ministry said that “Today, the Minister of Defence, Juvenal Marizamunda, together with the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen M.K. Mubarakh, received H.E. Einat Weiss, Ambassador of the State of Israel. They exchanged on areas of mutual interest and explored ways to further strengthen the existing defence cooperation between the two countries.”
The statement added that the officials discussed matters of mutual interest and reviewed ways to further strengthen the existing military cooperation between the two countries.
Rwanda and Israel already maintain cooperation in several sectors, including defence and security, particularly through the exchange of expertise among specialists in these fields.
In January 2020, a delegation from Israel led by Brigadier General (Rtd) Yair Kulas held talks with leaders in the Rwanda Defence Force and the Rwanda National Police.
The retired Israeli general explained that the discussions aimed to reinforce bilateral cooperation and exchange ideas on programs that could expand technological capabilities to benefit both countries.
Additionally, in November last year, a group of 14 former Israeli soldiers, many of whom were wounded in combat, visited Rwanda. Their trip aimed to continue sharing experiences and historical perspectives between the two nations.
