The National Bank of Rwanda has announced that the temporary suspension of Mobicash Rwanda Ltd operations has been extended until July 30, 2026, following an initial suspension that was put in place in January.
The extension was contained in a public notice released by the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR) on Thursday, July 9, 2026.
In the notice, BNR announced that it “informs the Rwandan public and all residents in general that it has extended the temporary suspension of operations of Mobicash Rwanda Ltd until July 30, 2026.”
BNR said that during this period, Mobicash Rwanda Ltd shall remain prohibited from conducting payment service activities or accepting new customer funds.
However, existing customers may continue to redeem or withdraw their funds under the supervision of the National Bank of Rwanda to ensure customer protection and an orderly settlement process.
The public is encouraged to use other licensed payment service providers. A list of licensed payment service providers is available on the BNR website: www.bnr.rw/paymentsystem
BNR also took the opportunity to remind payment service users that they must work with licensed payment service providers.
It said: “The National Bank of Rwanda remains committed to safeguarding customer funds and maintaining a safe, sound and reliable national payment system.”
The decision to suspend Mobicash Rwanda Ltd operations was first announced in late January 2026, following repeated compliance failures by the company.
This notice was published in accordance with Article 35(2) of Regulation No. 74/2023 of 18/09/2023 Governing Payment Service Providers, and was signed by BNR Governor Soraya M. Hakuziyaremwe on July 8, 2026.
