President Kagame Arrives in Doha to Offer Condolences Following the Passing of Qatar’s Father Amir

President of the Republic of Rwanda, Paul Kagame, arrived in Doha, Qatar, to console the country over the death of Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, father of the country’s Supreme Leader.

The Rwandan Head of State arrived in Doha on Monday, July 13, 2026, according to the Qatar News Agency (QNA).

In its report, QNA stated: “HE President of the Republic of Rwanda Paul Kagame arrived in Doha on Monday morning to offer condolences on the passing of HH the Father Amir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani.”

According to QNA, “His Excellency and the accompanying delegation were received upon arrival at Hamad International Airport by HE Minister of Transport Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdullah bin Mohammed Al-Thani and HE Ambassador of the Republic of Rwanda to the State of Qatar Igor Marara Kayinamura.”

The Rwandan Head of State travelled to Qatar after having, this past Sunday, consoled the Supreme Leader of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, over the death of his father.

In his message, President Kagame said Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani will be remembered as a leader with a clear vision, who developed Qatar into the exemplary nation it is today.

President Kagame said: “His legacy of good governance for the people, and his effort to expand friendship and cooperation with other countries, will continue to be carried forward in the times ahead.”

Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who passed away, led Qatar between 1995 and 2013 and played a major role in the country’s remarkable development, having laid the broad foundations that helped Qatar become one of the world’s leading nations.
