President of the Republic Paul Kagame received the Chief of Defence Forces of Uganda, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, who is in Rwanda on a two-day visit, and the two held discussions focused on issues including regional security.
This was announced by the Office of the President of Rwanda on Saturday night, July 25, 2026, just hours after General Muhoozi arrived in Rwanda.
The Presidency said: “President Kagame today received General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, Chief of Defence Forces of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).”
The Office of the President also said: “Their discussions focused on the strong bilateral cooperation between Rwanda and Uganda, as well as regional peace, security, and stability.”
Muhoozi was accompanied by communications and media expert Andrew Mwenda, who also serves as his communications advisor.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba arrived in Rwanda on Saturday afternoon, where he was received at Kigali International Airport by his Rwandan counterpart, RDF Chief of Defence Staff, General Mubarakh Muganga.
This UPDF Chief of Defence Forces last visited Rwanda in March 2025, in a visit marked by various activities, including a visit to the Nyakinama Senior Command and Staff College located in Musanze District.
General Muhoozi, who often refers to President Kagame as ‘My Uncle,’ was given 10 cows by him during a visit to Rwanda in 2022, and the following year, in 2023, he announced that the herd had multiplied to the point where it was about to double.
This prominent military figure in Uganda and the region, who often shares views on regional security matters, said last year that the UPDF and RDF are enduring brothers-in-arms.
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba played a role in restoring relations between Uganda and Rwanda after a period of tension, and in May 2022, he said that reuniting the UPDF and RDF was one of the most remarkable achievements of his military career.
