President Paul Kagame welcomed President Romuald Wadagni of the Republic of Benin at Urugwiro Village as he began a two-day official visit to Rwanda, his first since taking office in May of this year.
The visit builds on longstanding cooperation between Rwanda and Benin.
In 2023, President Kagame and then-Benin President Patrice Talon exchanged state visits as the two countries moved to deepen bilateral ties.
During Kagame’s visit to Benin, the two countries signed 10 cooperation instruments, including agreements on taxation and air services.
Rwanda and Benin have also worked together in areas including agriculture, ICT and digitalisation, urban planning and development.
During Kagame’s 2023 visit to Cotonou, the two sides also discussed opportunities to expand trade and investment, tourism, movement of people and goods, and air links between Kigali and Cotonou.
