BPR Bank Rwanda has introduced a six-year scholarship programme to support 50 students from disadvantaged backgrounds throughout their secondary education.
The BPR Scholars Programme, launched on Friday, September 4, will benefit 25 boys and 25 girls selected from different districts across Rwanda.
Through the BPR Bank Foundation, the bank will provide the students with essential school requirements from Senior One through Senior Six, helping them remain in school and complete their secondary education.
The programme is being implemented in partnership with the Ministry of Education. The ministry will assist in identifying and selecting eligible students while ensuring that the initiative supports Rwanda’s national education priorities.
BPR Bank said the scholarships are intended to address financial and socio-economic challenges that prevent some academically talented students from enrolling in secondary school, continuing their studies or completing their education.
In addition to financial assistance, the beneficiaries will participate in a structured mentorship programme supporting their academic and personal development.
The mentorship will cover goal setting, life skills, confidence building and career planning. Students will also receive information and guidance on further education and employment opportunities.
BPR Bank Rwanda Chief Financial Officer Vincent Ngirikiringo said the bank wanted to make a long-term commitment to the students instead of providing temporary financial assistance.
“We believe that every young person deserves an opportunity to reach their full potential, regardless of their background,” Ngirikiringo said.
He said the students would receive financial assistance and continued guidance throughout their six years of secondary education.
The initiative also seeks to promote inclusion and equal opportunities by supporting deserving students from different backgrounds.
BPR Bank plans to remain engaged with the beneficiaries as they progress from Senior One to Senior Six.
Ngirikiringo said the bank wanted the scholars to succeed academically and develop into “confident, capable and responsible young people” who can make meaningful contributions to their families, communities and Rwanda’s future.
The programme forms part of the wider work of the BPR Bank Foundation, which focuses on education and enterprise development.
BPR Bank Rwanda is a member of KCB Group and provides financial services to individuals, businesses and institutions across the country.
