Rwanda has demonstrated It’s ambition to become an innovation hub on the African continent, with Artificial Intelligence serving as a key pillar for advancing a knowledge-based and innovation-driven economy.
This was highlighted by Minister of ICT and Innovation, Paula Ingabire Musoni, during the World Summit on the Information Society Forum (WSIS Forum 2026) and the AI for Good Global Summit.
The WSIS Forum 2026 is a major international platform that brings together countries, international organizations, the private sector and experts in information and communication technology to discuss the role of ICT in sustainable development. The forum is held annually, organized in partnership with major institutions including the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), UNESCO, UNDP and UNCTAD, and serves as a space for reviewing progress on WSIS commitments.
This year’s forum placed a particular focus on inclusive AI governance and the road to the AI Summit 2027.
In that context, Rwanda hosted and led a session at the WSIS Forum 2026 titled “From AI Strategy to AI Delivery,” showcasing the country’s vision for the Rwanda AI Agency. The discussion explored how dedicated AI institutions can accelerate responsible AI adoption, talent, investment and public impact.
On the sidelines of the same forum and the AI for Good Global Summit, Minister Musoni joined an Atlantic Council high-level session with Chile’s Minister of Science, Technology and Knowledge, Ximena Aguilera Lincoleo, on inclusive AI governance and the road to the AI Summit 2027.
Minister Musoni also co-chaired the 2nd Africa AI Council Meeting under Smart Africa, where members validated the Council’s Two-Year Strategic Plan and advanced a shared vision for Africa’s AI sovereignty through coordinated action on talent, governance and innovation.
These activities reflect the significant role Rwanda continues to play in advancing the responsible and sustainable use of AI, both at the national and international level.
