The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) has reported that 5.2 tonnes of Rwandan specialty coffee attracted winning bids worth more than RWF 680 million during a four-hour international online auction, with one premium lot fetching approximately RWF 670,000 per kilogram.
The auction, held on October 21 under the Best of Rwanda 2026 competition, recorded 4,340 bids from participating buyers, generating a total value of $460,409.58.
The highest price went to K-Organics, a coffee producer from Huye District, whose Geisha coffee fetched $205.20 per pound, equivalent to approximately $452 per kilogram.
The coffee scored 90.74 points during the competition, taking first place in the special processing category.
The price marks a sharp increase compared with previous editions, when top coffees fetched $71.80 per kilogram in 2024 and approximately $88 in 2025.
Organised by NAEB, the competition attracted 320 coffee samples from producers and processors across Rwanda, with 25 selected for the international auction.
Three lots of Rwanda’s revived Mibirizi coffee variety were also offered separately, marking its first appearance at the auction.
The Best of Rwanda initiative connects local producers with international specialty coffee buyers, helping expand market access and create opportunities for higher export earnings.
The exceptional price achieved by K-Organics highlights the premium international buyers are prepared to pay for selected specialty coffees, although it does not represent the prices earned across Rwanda’s wider coffee market.
