September Prices in Rwanda Were 17.2% Higher Than a Year Earlier

The National Institute of Statistics of Rwanda (NISR) announced that market prices in September 2026 increased by 17.2% compared to September 2025.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which measures changes in prices paid by consumers for goods and services, also increased by 2.7% compared with August.

Food and non-alcoholic beverages recorded a 20.9% increase compared with the same period last year. Prices in the category also rose by 5.3% from August.

Housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels increased by 18.3% year-on-year. On a monthly basis, prices in the category rose by 0.1%.

Transport prices increased by 22.4% compared with a year earlier and by 0.2% from August.

Prices in restaurants and hotels rose by 18.9% year-on-year and by 2.8% compared with the previous month.

NISR figures also showed that prices of locally produced goods increased by 19.8% compared with a year earlier and by 3.4% from August.

Imported products recorded a 9.7% annual increase, while their prices rose by 0.5% on a monthly basis.

Fresh product prices increased by 27.9% compared with the same period last year and by 7.7% from August.

Energy prices were 45% higher than a year earlier and increased by 0.2% compared with August.

The index excluding fresh products and energy increased by 11.4% compared with a year earlier and by 1.3% from August.
