The rainy season can be difficult when you are not prepared. Heavy rain can leave roads muddy, clothes wet and homes vulnerable to water. But you do not need to spend a lot of money to prepare. Having a few useful things at home can make rainy days easier and more comfortable.
One of the most important things to have is an “umbrella”. A strong umbrella can protect you when you are going to work, school, the market or anywhere else. It is also a good idea to keep one at home and, if possible, have a smaller one that you can carry in your bag.
A “raincoat” is another useful item, especially for people who travel often. Sometimes the rain is too strong or the wind makes an umbrella difficult to use. A raincoat can help keep your clothes dry while you walk or travel.
You should also have “extra dry clothes” to change into in case you’re wet from rain. During rainy days, clothes may take longer to dry, especially when there is little sunshine. Having a few extra clothes, socks and underwear can save you from having to wear damp clothes or wash clothes every day.
A “torch or rechargeable light” can also be very useful. Heavy rain can sometimes cause power problems. Having a torch or rechargeable lamp at home means you can still move around safely when the electricity goes off. A charged power bank is also useful for keeping your phone working when you need to make a call.
Finally, make sure you have “something to protect important belongings from water”. Important documents, school papers, money, electronics and other valuable items should be kept in a safe, dry place. You can use waterproof bags, plastic folders or containers to protect them from water.
Preparing for the rainy season does not have to be expensive. Simple things such as an umbrella, raincoat, extra dry clothes, a torch and waterproof storage can help you deal with rainy days better. It is always easier to prepare before the heavy rain starts than to look for these things when you are already facing a problem.
