World Vision Rwanda Golf Tournament to Raise Funds for Child Nutrition

World Vision Rwanda is set to host the Friends of World Vision Golf Tournament this Saturday, August 22, bringing together business leaders, partners, golfers and members of the wider community to raise support for efforts aimed at tackling malnutrition among children in Rwanda.

The tournament was announced during a media engagement held on Wednesday, August 19, where organizers and partners highlighted the role of collective action in improving child nutrition and strengthening the wellbeing of vulnerable communities.

Funds raised through this year’s tournament will support World Vision Rwanda’s Integrated School Feeding Model in Burera District. The initiative will include the development of a centralized school kitchen as well as fruit tree planting, with the aim of improving access to nutritious food, strengthening household resilience and creating sustainable benefits for children and their families.

Speaking during the media engagement, Pauline Okumu, National Director of World Vision Rwanda, emphasized that adequate nutrition is essential to children’s overall development and future prospects.

“Nutrition is fundamental to a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive.”

She noted that inadequate access to nutritious food can have consequences that go beyond children’s health, potentially affecting their education, development and future opportunities.

Okumu said the tournament provides an opportunity to bring together different stakeholders around a shared commitment to ensuring that children have the conditions they need to survive, thrive and reach their full potential.

Sport as a platform for social impact

The tournament is being held in partnership with the Kigali Golf Resort & Villas, whose General Manager, Jacques Visagie, said the facility was proud to support an initiative demonstrating how sport can contribute to meaningful social change.

Visagie described the tournament as more than a sporting competition, saying it provides an opportunity to bring together business leaders, partners and members of the community in support of World Vision Rwanda’s work with children and families.

He also expressed appreciation to the sponsors, participants and partners whose contributions have made the tournament possible, emphasizing that their collective efforts are helping to invest in brighter futures and stronger communities.

“We look forward to an exciting and impactful tournament this Saturday,” Visagie said.

Trinity Metals backs child-focused intervention

Among the companies supporting the initiative is Trinity Metals, whose Chief Executive Officer, Peter Geleta, highlighted the company’s commitment to children and vulnerable people through its Corporate Social Responsibility programmes.

Geleta said Trinity Metals’ social investment focuses particularly on health, education and alternative livelihoods, explaining that communities around mining areas can face challenges that leave some children vulnerable to engaging in illegal mining activities.

According to Geleta, nutrition is therefore an important component of the company’s community interventions.

“Children are our future. If we have strong, healthy children, that creates a resilient community and also a future workforce for Trinity Metals.”

He said Trinity Metals readily embraced the opportunity to co-sponsor the tournament because of its potential to address an important challenge and positively affect the lives of many children.

Investing in sustainable solutions

Beyond providing immediate nutritional support, the Integrated School Feeding Model in Burera is designed to contribute to longer-term resilience at household and community level.

The planned centralized school kitchen is expected to strengthen school feeding, while fruit tree planting will contribute to improving access to nutritious foods and creating sustainable sources of food for communities.

World Vision Rwanda and its partners say the initiative reflects the importance of bringing together the private sector, civil society and the wider community to address challenges affecting children.

The Friends of World Vision Golf Tournament will take place on Saturday, August 22, 2026, with proceeds going towards initiatives designed to improve child nutrition and support healthier and more resilient communities.

The organizers are calling on participants, sponsors and partners to use the tournament not only as a platform for sport and networking, but also as an opportunity to contribute to a future in which every child has access to the nutrition and support needed to grow, learn and thrive.
