Rwanda National Police has announced that it has begun following up on the issue of other foreigners who appeared in videos assaulting motorcycle taxi riders in the City of Kigali.
This follows videos circulating on social media showing these foreigners, reported to be South Sudanese, violently attacking a motard.
In these videos, shared on the social media platform X by a user named Kazungu Kaboss, a person is seen being pushed into a drainage trench.
The footage also shows the foreigners confronting two motorcycle taxi riders. It is reported that one of the riders had transported one of the foreigners to the Gisozi area, but upon arrival, the passenger refused to pay.
In the message accompanying the video, Kaboss wrote “We request the Government of Rwanda to expel these South Sudanese. If they are not removed, they will harm us, this happened in Gisozi/Gasave. RIB and Rwanda National Police don’t laws apply to these South Sudanese as well?”
Responding to the post, Rwanda National Police stated “We have begun following up on this issue so that all those involved are held accountable.”
This incident comes a month after the arrest of three foreign students from UNILAK who also assaulted motorcycle taxi riders.
These individuals, who were arrested on October 20th, 2025, had committed the assault in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District in Kigali.
There have been ongoing concerns about foreigners mostly South Sudanese engaging in acts of violence in Kigali, incidents that have repeatedly been condemned by the public.
Recently, Rwanda National Police revealed that over the past 12 months, 240 foreigners were apprehended for crimes related to such violence, including assault, causing injuries, and theft. Among those arrested, 64 were deported to their home countries.
