Rwanda and Kenya have reached a significant milestone in their energy cooperation following the arrival of the MT Sea Wolf, carrying the Rwanda National Energy Company’s (RNEC) first-ever cargo of 40,000 tonnes of refined petroleum products.
The vessel arrived at the Kenya Pipeline Company’s Kipevu Oil Terminal 2 (KOT2) in Mombasa, marking an important step in efforts by the two countries to strengthen energy security and ensure more resilient petroleum supply chains in the region.
The development is part of the broader cooperation between Rwanda and Kenya aimed at improving the availability and reliability of petroleum products while strengthening regional trade and economic integration.
Speaking during the ceremony in Mombasa, Rwanda’s Minister of State, Armand Zingiro, who represented the Government of Rwanda, reaffirmed Rwanda’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Kenya.
He also highlighted the importance of advancing the broader vision of regional integration under the East African Community (EAC).
Zingiro expressed optimism that the arrival of the MT Sea Wolf would be the beginning of further cooperation, with more vessels expected to deliver petroleum products through the partnership.
He said the development would contribute to strengthening ties between Rwanda and Kenya while supporting shared prosperity and sustainable development across the region.
The arrival of the 40,000-tonne cargo underscores the continued efforts by Rwanda and Kenya to use regional partnerships to improve energy security, strengthen petroleum supply chains and support economic growth.
