President Paul Kagame met President Bassirou Diomaye Faye in Dakar to discuss cooperation between Rwanda and Senegal, alongside regional and global issues.
The presidents also discussed Africa’s growing role in hosting major sporting events. Kagame was in Senegal for the opening of the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games, which he attended alongside Faye on Saturday.
Their meeting came less than a month after the two countries signed 11 cooperation instruments at the inaugural session of their Joint Permanent Commission in Kigali.
The agreements and memoranda cover areas including political consultations, technology, tourism, youth, sport and higher education.
Investment ties also formed part of that October engagement. The Rwanda Development Board and Senegal’s investment promotion agency signed a memorandum of understanding intended to promote cooperation between investors and businesses in the two countries.
The relationship had gained further agreements during Faye’s state visit to Rwanda in October 2025.
The two presidents witnessed the signing of five accords covering visa exemptions, agriculture, health, development planning and correctional services.
Faye later saw Kagame off at Léopold Sédar Senghor Military Airport.
