Coffee Exports Earned $4.25 Million in Five Days as Agricultural Shipments Reached $11.15 Million

The National Agricultural Export Development Board (NAEB) recorded $4.25 million in coffee export earnings over the five days from October 26 to 30, as agricultural and livestock shipments brought in a total of $11.15 million.

NAEB recorded exports of 9,486 tonnes during the period. Coffee earned $4,246,079, accounting for about 38% of the stated total of $11,147,542.

Coffee was the highest earning individual product in NAEB’s breakdown. Its combined category of diverse agricultural and animal products generated more, at $4,729,399, but covers several types of exports.

Tea brought in $1,148,178, making it the next highest-earning individual product. Fruit exports earned $625,670, while vegetables generated $344,387 and flowers $53,828.

The five day total was $198,733 lower than the $11,346,275 recorded from October 19 to 23. Export weight barely changed, rising by one tonne from 9,485 tonnes in the earlier period.

Coffee accounted for the largest fall in earnings among the listed categories. Its export value declined by $419,599 from the previous period’s $4,665,678, a drop of about 9%.

Tea and fruit moved in the opposite direction. Tea earnings rose by $212,775 from $935,403, while fruit earnings increased by $119,826 from $505,844. Those gains partly offset the decline in coffee.

Vegetable earnings fell by $53,258, and flower earnings declined by $12,134.

The combined diverse agricultural and animal products category also brought in $46,344 less than in the preceding period.

Coffee’s share of total earnings fell from about 41% to 38%, while tea’s share rose from about 8% to 10%.

The comparison shows how the value generated by different products changed even though the overall weight shipped remained almost the same.
