Up to 120mm of Rainfall Expected in Parts of Rwanda in Early November

Meteo Rwanda has forecast higher than usual rainfall across the country between November 1 and 10, 2026, with some districts expected to receive up to 120 millimetres, particularly in the Northern and Western provinces.

In its latest weather forecast issued on November 1, the Rwanda Meteorology Agency said rainfall amounts would range between 30 and 120 millimetres nationwide, slightly exceeding the usual range of 25 to 106 millimetres recorded during the first ten days of November.

The agency expects between four and six rainy days during the period, depending on location.

The highest rainfall amounts, ranging between 90 and 120 millimetres, are forecast in Musanze, Nyabihu and Ngororero districts, as well as several parts of Rubavu, Rutsiro, Gakenke, Rusizi, Nyamasheke and Nyamagabe.

Similar rainfall levels are expected in parts of Nyaruguru, Karongi, Huye, Muhanga and Burera districts.

Other areas of the Western Province, alongside sections of the Northern and Southern provinces, are expected to receive between 60 and 90 millimetres of rainfall.

Several parts of Kigali and sections of Bugesera, Rwamagana, Gatsibo and Nyagatare are forecast to receive between 45 and 60 millimetres, while the remaining areas of the country could receive between 30 and 45 millimetres.

Meteo Rwanda attributed the rainfall pattern partly to the southward movement of the Intertropical Convergence Zone towards the equator, alongside atmospheric conditions associated with the Madden-Julian Oscillation over the Indian Ocean.

The forecast also indicates moderate to strong winds across the country, with speeds ranging between four and 12 metres per second.

The strongest winds, reaching between eight and 12 metres per second, are expected in parts of Karongi, Nyamagabe, Ngororero, Rutsiro, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Muhanga, Ruhango and Kamonyi districts.

Regarding temperatures, daytime highs are expected to range between 20°C and 30°C, while nighttime lows could range from 10°C to 19°C.

The highest daytime temperatures, between 28°C and 30°C, are forecast in Bugesera, several parts of Kigali and areas of the Eastern Province.

Meanwhile, cooler conditions are expected in western Musanze and northwestern Nyabihu, where daytime temperatures could range between 20°C and 22°C.

Meteo Rwanda has advised the public to take preventive measures against possible effects of rainfall and strong winds, particularly in Karongi, Ngororero, Rutsiro, Rubavu, Nyabihu, Nyamagabe, Muhanga, Ruhango and Nyamasheke districts.

The agency also urged residents to follow guidance issued by the Ministry in Charge of Emergency Management (MINEMA) and other relevant authorities.

The forecast provides information for farmers, businesses, transport operators and local authorities to plan their activities and take necessary precautions during the rainy season.
