Ambassador Mukantabana Named Among 25 Influential Women Worldwide in 2026

Rwanda’s Ambassador to the United States, Mathilde Mukantabana, has been named among Silke Endress International’s 25 Influential Women of 2026, recognising her leadership in diplomacy, education and international engagement.

The recognition was announced by Rwanda’s Embassy in Washington, highlighting her professional achievements and contributions beyond her diplomatic responsibilities.

Mukantabana was recognised for her work in strengthening international relations and her longstanding involvement in initiatives promoting education and community development.

Silke Endress International is a global media and storytelling organisation that promotes women’s leadership across different sectors, including governance, diplomacy, business and public service.

Its annual 25 Influential Women initiative recognises women whose achievements and leadership have contributed to positive change in their communities and professional fields.

The organisation, led by CeCe Cole, also connects women with opportunities for professional development, collaboration and international networking.

Before entering diplomacy, Mukantabana worked as a history professor at Cosumnes River College in Sacramento, California.

Her academic career also included supporting the establishment of a social work programme at the former National University of Rwanda in 1999, in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Following the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, she co-founded the Friends of Rwanda Association, an organisation established in the United States to support humanitarian assistance and Rwanda’s recovery.

Mukantabana has served as Rwanda’s Ambassador to the United States since 2013, representing the country’s interests and promoting cooperation in areas including diplomacy, education and investment.

Her professional contributions have received recognition on several occasions. In September 2026, she received the Global Leader in Peacebuilding Award from Black Professionals in International Affairs for her work in peacebuilding and international engagement.

The latest recognition by Silke Endress International adds to her record of achievements in diplomacy, education and community service.
