Comedian Muco Samson, known as Samu Zuby, who ran for the second time to become the Deputy representing youth in Rwanda’s Chamber of Deputies, lost the race after securing just 3 percent of the vote, but he thanked his supporters and said he will not give up.
The election was held to replace Deputy Icyitegetse Vénuste, who had represented youth in Parliament before resigning in June this year.
The race drew 54 candidates in total. It was won by Niyonshuti Ben, who secured 47 votes out of 196 voters, representing 23.9 percent, putting him ahead of the rest of the field.
Muco Samson, known as Samu Zuby, received 6 votes, representing 3 percent, placing him third in the race.
Following the results, Samu Zuby turned to social media to thank those who voted for him and those who sent him messages of encouragement.
He wrote: “To everyone who reached out, thank you for your support and encouragement. I may not have made it to Parliament, but finishing 3rd out of 54 candidates is a victory and motivation to keep going. I am grateful, stronger, and more determined. I will never give up. The journey continues!”
This is not the first time Samu Zuby has contested an election for the youth parliamentary seat. He also ran in 2024, when Icyitegetse Vénuste was elected on the men’s side with 159 votes, while Umuhoza Vanessa Gashumba led on the women’s side with 188 votes.
