First Lady Jeannette Kagame has said that the impressive progress Rwanda has continued to make since Liberation requires everyone’s contribution, particularly calling on young people to make good use of the opportunities they have now, as those opportunities are what will take them to the good future they envision.
The First Lady of the Republic, who also serves as the President of the Imbuto Foundation, made these remarks during the official opening of the Imbuto Hubs infrastructure project, aimed at developing young people.
The facility, located in Bugesera District, was built in partnership between the Imbuto Foundation and the District administration, and will also contribute to the broader development of the community by offering vocational training and practical skills.
It is also expected to promote sports, support early childhood development and provide counseling services related to the wellbeing of the community.
First Lady Jeannette Kagame, who officially opened the facility, said it is meaningful that it opens during the month when Rwandans are still celebrating Liberation, as the journey of Liberation continues through ongoing development.
She said: “Liberation is not just one day, it is everyone’s daily journey of building a capable citizen who believes in themselves and plays a role in the development of their community and their country.”
First Lady Jeannette Kagame said that the path Rwanda is on toward self-advancement is not an easy journey, but it is possible, and requires everyone to play their part.
She said: “When you look closely, you realize that every great journey begins with a single step. A house is built stone by stone. A tree also starts as a small seed planted in the soil, but when that seed receives fertilizer and water, and is given sunlight, it grows into a great tree. That is the philosophy that guides the Imbuto Foundation.”
She said this facility will play a role in providing what people need to develop themselves and contribute to the development of the country that gave birth to them.
She said: “We believe that every person is a seed, when we give them what they need in education, health, values and opportunities, they can grow well and transform their community and their country.”
First Lady Jeannette Kagame also said that the Imbuto Foundation has spent 25 years planting seeds in various ways including education, and that the results are visible.
She said: “Some have already borne fruit, and others are still growing slowly, because building a person is not a one-day task. Today we are not only here to open a buildingwe are here to plant another seed.”
She said this facility is a new seed of the Imbuto Foundation, which will create opportunities for people of all kinds, young people finding a place to grow their talents, and communities gaining the basics that bring greater stability.
