In Kigali, many young people are working hard to build their future, and that alone is something positive. Even though many carry a silent fear of failure, the desire to succeed shows strength and ambition. This fear comes from pressure to succeed early, help family, and meet society’s expectations. Still, the fact that youths continue to dream means they have not given up.
Social media often increases this fear, but it also shows what is possible. Seeing others succeed can be painful, yet it can also inspire. Many young people are learning new skills, starting small businesses, and using the internet to grow. Even when comparison hurts, it also proves that opportunities exist and success can come in different ways.
Recently, a girl on TikTok said that Rwandan youths are broke, and while this statement caused debate, it opened an important conversation. The positive side is that young people are finally talking about real struggles. Many youths may be facing financial challenges, but they are also creative, hardworking, and willing to hustle. Talking openly about money struggles helps remove shame and encourages support.
Because of fear, some youths hesitate to take risks, but many still try in their own small ways. Some start side hustles, others go back to school, and many keep learning even after failure. Every small step forward matters. Failure does not mean the end, it means experience, lessons, and growth.
Kigali’s youth should remember that fear of failure is normal, but it should not stop progress. We need to encourage each other to try, fail, and try again without judgment. Let’s create spaces where young people can speak openly, learn from mistakes, and grow with confidence. If you are a young person in Kigali, keep going, your effort today is already a win.
