For more than four hours, the Governor of South Kivu Province and the Rwandan Ambassador to France spoke clearly about the situation and the causes of conflict in this region of the world for over thirty years.
Governor Jean-Jacques Purusi not only exposed the mechanism of a system of exploitation of the Kivu mines by more than 160 Chinese companies, each with a sponsor in Kinshasa and export channels for these rare earths via Burundi, Rwanda, Uganda, and Tanzania, but he also suggested ways and means of resolving the crisis through the establishment of a win-win agreement for all the populations of the Greater Kivus, whom he said are condemned to live together.
This explanation did not seem to sit well with the MPs present in the room, probably due to ignorance on their part or bad faith. This latest version of events, as seen by a major player such as the Governor of South Kivu, contradicts their beliefs and in no way justified the presence of a Rwandan ambassador in the room.
Ignoring this new information, they took turns rehashing Kinshasa’s narrative that Rwanda is the source of all the DR Congo’s misfortunes: violated borders, mineral theft, the supposed presence of RDF according to so-called “UN experts” and much more.
For any informed observer of geopolitical developments in Africa, the French MPs present in the room were conspicuous by their incompetence and ignorance of the facts. They hit rock bottom and unfortunately continued to dig deeper with a pre-written questionnaire, unable to find the answers they wanted in the presentation by the Governor of South Kivu. The height of stupidity was reached during an exchange between MP Berville, who challenged his colleague Clémentine Autain. The latter made a nonsensical statement about Rwanda’s supposed victimhood, publicly threatening her colleague and denying that he hadn’t heard anything. In her defense, having been close to Mélenchon, it’s not surprising that she would make such an inappropriate and reprehensible comment about Rwanda.
The representatives of the French people are no longer what they used to be. The whole thing needs to be completely overhauled if France’s voice is to carry far. It has become irrelevant, even worse, inaudible.
