The Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) CDS, General MK Mubarakh, has called on the country’s youth to take ownership of Africa’s future by seeking homegrown solutions to Africa’s challenges.
Speaking to the 15th cohort of Itorero Indangamirwa at the National Ubutore Development Centre in Nkumba, Burera District, Gen Mubarakh delivered a lecture titled “Pursuit of African Solutions to African Problems: Case of RDF’S Interventions on the African Continent.”
He outlined RDF’s peacekeeping and security operations in the Central African Republic and Mozambique, describing them as examples of how African nations can address instability without overreliance on external forces.
The Chief of Defence Staff also urged the youth to work hard and understand their role as future leaders in developing Rwanda and Africa in general. He encouraged them to improve their skills and capabilities, take ownership, and look for solutions to challenges currently affecting the continent, including poverty, conflicts, and health crises among others.
RDF’s Footprint in Africa
According to the Ministry of Defence Rwanda, In the Central African Republic, RDF troops have trained hundreds of national soldiers, with a recent batch of over 600 graduating in Bangui after seven months of instruction. The mission, conducted under bilateral agreements, has been credited with boosting CAR’s security forces’ readiness.
In Mozambique’s Cabo Delgado province, RDF forces have played a key role in securing districts previously overrun by insurgents. The deployment, which began with about 1,000 troops and expanded to nearly 5,000, has enabled the return of more than 250,000 displaced residents and the reopening of strategic ports. The European Union has since pledged €20 million in support of Rwanda’s efforts there.
