Asia Machinery Sinotruk Rwanda, a company that sells large vehicles used in the transportation of goods particularly in the construction sector has announced that it is set to launch a truck assembly plant in Rwanda, expressing confidence that this will benefit Rwandans and the country as a whole.
This was announced by the Chief Executive Officer of Asia Machinery-Sinotruk Rwanda, Ruzagiriza Francis, during the company’s public unveiling of a new model of the Howo truck. The truck was unveiled to existing customers of the company as well as Rwandans in general, featuring advanced technology and a modern design suited to the current era.
The event also coincided with the celebration of the company’s 10th anniversary of operating in Rwanda, during which time it has played a significant role in advancing transportation, particularly in the construction sector.
Ruzagiriza Francis said that the ten years the company has operated in Rwanda have been marked by many achievements, but particularly the significant role it has played in improving the transportation sector, while also continuing to expand its operations.
He said: “We brought new trucks that people were not yet familiar with, but we worked well with our customers, who gradually came to trust us and even referred others to us.”
He also said that the company’s work continues to be well received across Rwanda, and that its trucks sell at an impressive rate, noting that when the company first entered the Rwandan market, one company immediately purchased 60 trucks.
He further noted that beyond the many trucks used in construction material transportation in Rwanda, those purchased from the company are also visible in neighboring countries, saying: “If you go to Uganda today you will see many trucks with Rwandan plates, and most of them were purchased from Sinotruk Rwanda.”
Truck Assembly Plant in Rwanda
Ruzagiriza said that after ten years of operating in Rwanda, the company is continuing its journey of expanding operations, including plans to begin assembling trucks locally.
He said: “We have a plan to start assembling trucks in Rwanda. This is a project that will benefit our company, generate returns for the country, and benefit Rwandans.”
He said this idea came from observing how consistently the company’s trucks continue to sell in Rwanda and across the region.
He said: “We now have a clear understanding of how the market stands here and in neighboring countries, and we see many opportunities.”
The plant will be built in Kayonza District in the Eastern Province, and is expected to begin operations no later than September 2027, according to the management of Asia Machinery-Sinotruk Rwanda.
Beyond helping those wishing to purchase trucks in Rwanda and the region, the plant is expected to contribute to the development of Rwandans, as it will create employment for more than 1,500 people.
In addition to selling trucks, the company also sells spare parts for these vehicles, including engines, gearboxes and other components, at competitive prices.
Sinotruk is also planning to start selling electric trucks, particularly for use in Rwanda, which will be capable of traveling between 300 and 400 kilometers on a single charge.
