The AFC/M23 coalition has reported that their opponents specifically Burundian Forces and the FDLR, have carried out attacks using Kamikaze-type warplanes in areas including Mikenke, Bidegu and surrounding parts of Minembwe, initiating a new type of widespread fighting towards the Ruzizi area.
This was announced by the AFC/M23 Political Spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka, on the morning of Tuesday, March 17, 2026.
Kanyuka stated that since Monday night into Tuesday, “The combined forces of the Kinshasa regime, including the FDNB, FDLR, mercenaries, and the Wazalendo Millitias, carried out a bombing campaign using kamikaze drones, targeting densely populated areas of Mikenke, Bidegu, and their surroundings in Minembwe.”
He added that these attacks were ongoing on Tuesday morning. The AFC/M23 coalition wants to inform the Congolese people and the international community that the Kinshasa government continues these attacks, which are killing innocent civilians, including the events of March 11, 2026.
He said “The Congolese blood that this regime spills with systematic brutality will neither be ignored, nor forgotten, nor stifled by complete silence.”
Kanyuka also reported that “The generalized war imposed by the Kinshasa regime is taking a new turn along the main RN5 road, in the Ruzizi plain.”
He stated that starting from 6:40 a.m., Kinshasa government fighters fired artillery shells in the densely populated area of Kabunambo, killing some and forcing many civilians to flee their homes.
The AFC/M23 spokesperson emphasized that these brutal acts continue to be committed by the opposing side and are unacceptable. He said, “These crimes cannot be minimized or ignored by the national and international community.”
Kanyuka also assured that the AFC/M23 coalition will continue doing everything possible to protect civilians and their property while resisting these new attacks from the opposing side.
