The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Amb. Olivier Nduhungirehe, is expected in Pretoria, South Africa, where he will be hosted by his South African counterpart for talks focused on the relationship between the two countries and ways to continue strengthening it.
This visit by Minister Nduhungirehe to South Africa was announced by South Africa’s Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation through its official platforms on Monday, June 15, 2026.
The ministry said that “The Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ronald Lamola, will host the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Rwanda, Olivier J.P. Nduhungirehe, in Pretoria on Wednesday, 17 June 2026.”
The South African government says this meeting forms part of ongoing efforts by both countries to rebuild and strengthen bilateral relations between South Africa and Rwanda.
According to South Africa’s Ministry of International Relations and Cooperation, the talks between the two top diplomats will focus on enhancing diplomatic engagement and advancing cooperation in priority areas, “including trade, tourism, health, education, and security.”
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Lamola will hold a press conference where he will brief journalists on the outcomes of the discussions held with his Rwandan counterpart.
During this press briefing, South Africa’s Minister of Foreign Affairs will also outline ongoing efforts aimed at advancing and safeguarding the relationship between the two countries.
These talks come at a time when South Africa continues to face a wave of citizens targeting migrants from other African countries, demanding that they return to their home countries, with some being subjected to violence, and some countries having already decided to repatriate their citizens.
