President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame hosted international philanthropists Bill and Joyce Cummings, along with key actors in the health sectors, including the founder of Partners in Health and leaders from the University of Global Health Equity, at a dinner.
The event took place on the evening of Monday, January 26, 2026, according to a statement from the office of the President.
The Presidency of the Republic stated that, “This evening at Urugwiro Village, President Paul Kagame and First Lady Jeannette Kagame hosted philanthropists Bill and Joyce Cummings, Didi Bertrand Farmer, Ophelia Dahl, Founder of Partners in Health, Dr Jim Yong Kim, Chancellor of the University of Global Health Equity (UGHE), and Prof. Philip Cotton, UGHE Vice Chancellor.”
The Office of the President explained that this dinner followed a graduation ceremony held over the previous weekend for student who completed their studies at UGHE. The ceremony coincided with celebrating marking the university’s 10th anniversary since its establishment
According to the Presidency, during the dinner discussions focused on “UGHE impactful contribution to the education sector, particularly through high quality training for the next generation of global health leaders.”
During the graduation ceremony and the celebrations of UGHE’s 10th anniversary, First Lady Jeannette Kagame was awarded an Honorary Doctorate, in recognition of her contribution and role in advancing healthcare and inclusive education.
