The Rwanda Defence Force has released new badges and flags for its respective services, announcing changes that include new sleeve badges and special technical symbols.
The new designs were released at midnight on Saturday, July 4, 2026, to mark Rwanda’s Liberation Day.
The RDF said: “As Rwanda celebrates the 32nd Liberation Day, the Rwanda Defence Force (RDF) has unveiled new insignias for its respective services.”
It also said: “The updated flags, logos, patches, and skill identifiers serve as powerful symbols of the RDF’s identity. They also stand as enduring symbols of national pride, and visual reinforce the Force’s core mission.”
This is not the first time RDF has made such changes. Last year, on the 31st Liberation Day, the force introduced a darker shade for the national flag worn on the sleeve. The RDF Spokesperson, Brig Gen Ronald Rwivanga, explained the reason at the time.
He said: “It was simply too visible, this one is darker, nothing else. A military uniform should have camouflage.”
Since January 2023, rank badges were also moved from the shoulders to the chest on working and combat uniforms, while ceremonial uniforms continue to carry them on the shoulders. Some lower-level rank badges also changed in design, replacing plain stripes with a feather-like marking.
