The AFC/M23 coalition has confirmed that it carried out an operation to destroy facilities used to prepare drone attacks by the FARDC at Kisangani Airport. These drones had reportedly been used to launch attacks in some of the areas liberated by the coalition.
This was announced in a statement released on Wednesday morning, 4 February 2026, by the AFC/M23 political spokesperson, Lawrence Kanyuka.
According to Kanyuka, the attacks took place between Saturday, 31 January, and Sunday, 1 February 2026, and were aimed at dismantling facilities used to plan military operations involving FARDC drones.
Kanyuka stated: “This centre served as the primary hub for the planning, coordination, and execution of deadly operations targeting civilian population as well as AFC/M23 positions in the liberated areas, notably in Masisi, Walikale, Rutshuru, Lubero, Kalehe, Mwenga, and Minebwe.”
He added that the operation followed a series of mass killings allegedly carried out by forces aligned with the Kinshasa government, which he said had been repeatedly documented through written reports and video evidence.
“Regrettably, these alerts were met with deafening, culpable indifference.” he said.
The AFC/M23 spokesperson further stated that the coalition would never tolerate or stand by while innocent civilians continue to be killed brutally.
He also warned the Congolese government that: “If it persists in committing such crimes, the AFC/M23 will take action to neutralize these threats at their source.”
Kanyuka called on the Kinshasa authorities to make a clear choice between peace and war.
“If it chooses peace, it must strictly respect the ceasefire. If it chooses war, it will bear full responsibility and all the consequences that may result”, he said.
The coalition also urged the Congolese government to stop bringing in foreign actors involved in operations that result in the killing of innocent Congolese civilians.
Kanyuka further stated: “The AFC/M23 carried out the operation in Kisangani. The Kinshasa regime is fully aware of the military equipment it abandoned at the airports of Goma and Kavumu and must also understand that the use of drones and mercenaries is neither exclusive to nor the sole prerogative.”
In conclusion, he said AFC/M23 is informing the international community that it will not hesitate to take immediate action to stop what it described as harmful actions by the Congolese government.
