Princess Spéciose Mukabayojo, the daughter of King Yuhi V Musinga who ruled Rwanda between 1896 and 1931, has passed away in Kenya, where she had been living.
Her death was confirmed by her family, who announced that she died at a hospital in Nairobi, Kenya, where she resided.
The late Spéciose Mukabayojo was the sister of King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, who passed away in 2017. She was also among those who attended the funeral ceremony held in Mwima, Nyanza District in Southern Rwanda, where the Rwandan kings are buried.
Reports indicate that Mukabayojo passed away on the night of Monday, October 27, 2025, due to natural causes and old age. She died at the age of 93.
Spéciose Mukabayojo was the daughter of King Yuhi V Musinga, who ruled Rwanda from 1896 to 1931 before being succeeded by his son, King Mutara III Rudahigwa, following Musinga’s exile to Congo, where he eventually died.
After the death of King Mutara III Rudahigwa, he was succeeded by his brother, King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa, who passed away in 2017 in the United States, where he had been living.
Princess Mukabayojo, who was the last surviving child of King Yuhi V Musinga, was last seen in public during the burial ceremony of her brother, King Kigeli V Ndahindurwa. She is survived by six children.
