MTN Rwanda Powers the Nation’s Digital Future with the Launch of New 5G Sites, Paving the Way for a Smarter, More Connected Rwanda

MTN Rwandacell Plc (MTN Rwanda) is proud to announce the official launch of its 5G network, across different locations including Gasabo, Nyarugenge, Kicukiro, and Kamonyi Districts.

With the initial deployment at the Kigali Convention Centre–Kigali Heights–KABC area in May, this launch marks a significant milestone in Rwanda’s digital transformation journey. MTN Rwanda recognises the vital role technology plays in accelerating socio-economic development. With the power of 5G, the company is unlocking new possibilities for individuals, businesses, and communities alike. The network promises ultra-fast, reliable connectivity enabling Rwandans to work smarter, live better, and connect more deeply in today’s digital world.

The launch of 5G in Rwanda is set to accelerate progress across key sectors of the economy. In education, it will support remote learning and digital classrooms with faster, more stable connections, helping bridge the gap for students in rural areas. In healthcare, 5G will enable quicker access to health care services such as real-time patient monitoring, improving service delivery even in hard-to-reach communities. The business sectors will benefit from smart technologies that boost productivity and efficiency, while in sports and entertainment, fans can expect enhanced live streaming and immersive digital experiences. The rollout will also strengthen digital financial services more reliable; moreover, it will enable real-time analytics, smart devices integration, and broader access in underserved areas, bringing Rwanda closer to a connected, digital future.

The introduction of 5G also promises a transformative impact on Rwanda’s Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) industry by enabling seamless virtual and hybrid events, real-time translations, and enhanced interactive experiences that attract global participation. In agriculture, 5G will support precision farming through real-time data collection, smart irrigation, and drone-based monitoring, helping farmers increase yields and manage resources more efficiently. These advancements will not only boost productivity but also open new income-generating opportunities, contributing to Rwanda’s broader socio-economic development. As the nation continues its digital transformation journey, 5G stands as a critical enabler, connecting people, driving innovation, and fostering inclusive growth across every corner of Rwanda.

The 5G network will be accessible to users with compatible devices, including iPhone 14 and above, as well as selected models from Transsion brands such as TECNO and Infinix. MTN Rwanda is currently in the process of closing certification with Samsung, with Google Pixel certification to follow. Customers are encouraged to check their device settings and ensure they have the latest software updates to enjoy the full benefits of 5G connectivity, faster speeds, low latency, and smoother digital experience.
