The National Institute of Rwanda (NISR) announced that the value of Rwanda’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in the second quarter of 2025 was 5.798 billion Rwandan francs. This marks an increase compared to the 4.966 billion recorded in the same quarter of 2024.
NISR stated that the measurements were based on 2024 data and showed growth to 2017.
In this growth, services contributed 50%, agriculture 23%, industry 21%, while taxes accounted for 5%.
The country’s GDP was calculated based on the types of activities at market prices.
Services
The services sector contributed 50% driven by:
- Telecommunications: 5%
- Technical and scientific activities: 3%
- Public administration and security by government institutions: 4%
- Cultural and traditional activities: 3%
Other service contributions:
- Trade services: 9%
- Financial and insurance services: 2%
- Education: 3%
- Hotels and restaurants: 4%
- Transport of people and goods: 8%
- Health and social services: 1%
Agriculture
In this sector, NISR reported:
- Livestock contributed 3%
- Forestry: 4%
- Agricultural exports: 2%
- Food crops: 14%
Industry
For industry, NISR indicated:
- Plastic products: 1%
- Construction: 10%
- Beverages and tobacco: 2%
- Processed foods: 2%
- Mining and quarrying: 2%
- Textile and garment manufacturing: 1%
GDP Growth Trending
The value of Rwanda’s GDP has steadily increased during the second quarters of the last five years. NISR revealed that in 2021 it was 2.383 billion Rwandan francs, in 2022 it reached 3.550 billion, and in 2023 it was 4.256 billion.
