As peace talks between the AFC/M23 coalition and the government of the Democratic Republic of Congo continue, an official announcement is expected to be made regarding the progress achieved so far, along with the principles that will guide the anticipated agreement between the two sides.
It had been scheduled that on the night of Friday at 9:30 PM (Doha time), a press briefing would take place at the headquarters of Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which is mediating the ongoing talks between AFC/M23 and the Congolese government.
However, this briefing did not take place as planned and was instead postponed to Saturday, according to information from the news outlet ACTUALITE.CD.
During the press conference, the parties are expected to highlight the achievements of the two-week-long talks.
It is also expected that they will announce the principles that will define the agreement to be signed by both sides an event that would mark a significant milestone in the Qatar-led negotiations.
This would be the second document to be signed between the two parties, following one signed on April 22, 2025, in which the Congolese government and AFC/M23 had pledged to work together toward a ceasefire. However, that goal has not been fully achieved, as clashes continue to be reported in various parts of Eastern DRC.
These ongoing negotiations between AFC/M23 and the Congolese government are part of the broader peace efforts that follow a recent agreement signed between the governments of Rwanda and the DRC in Washington, D.C., United States, on June 27.
