The Local Authorities of the North Kivu, appointed by the AFC/M23 coalition, provided assistance to people that were affected by a fire that broke out in the Mapendo area of Goma city.
The aid was delivered by the Deputy Governor of North Kivu, Bahati Musanga Erasto, on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, just a few hours after the fire occurred.
The fire broke out on the night of January 27 around 3 a.m, destroying several properties in the Mapendo area of Birere, in the Kisangani district of Goma.
Deputy Governor Bahati Musanga Erasto stated that the provincial authorities, together with 64 families affected by the fire, provided immediate assistance.
He also announced that the aid package included 1,280 roofing sheets to repair or rebuild the damaged homes.
Additionally, the aid included 640 bags of cement for construction and 64 bags of rice to help the families replace the food lost in the fire.
Each family received 20 roofing sheets, 10 bags of cement, and one bag of rice.
Bahati Musanga Erasto said this support is part of emergency relief efforts to help these families with food and to make it easier for them to rebuild their damaged homes.
People who received  this aid expressed their gratitude to the Deputy Governor for the prompt support, which they said they had never received before AFC/M23 began governing Goma city.
