The Rwanda National Police has announced the arrest of three foreign male students studying in Rwanda, who were caught assaulting motorcycle taxi riders and injuring them.

This was confirmed by the Rwanda National Police in a statement released on Monday, October 20, 2025, following several reports of violent acts committed by some foreigners living in Kigali.

The statement from the Police reads: “The Rwanda National Police has arrested three foreign students from UNILAK who assaulted and injured two motorcycle taxi riders.”

The violent incident that led to the arrest of these young men took place in Gatenga Sector, Kicukiro District, in Kigali City, an area that has recently seen similar acts of violence. Many residents have been calling on authorities to take strong action, saying the situation has been escalating.

The suspects are currently being held at the Kicukiro Police Station as legal procedures continue, according to the Police.

The Police also issued a reminder to the public, stating: “We remind citizens to report such incidents promptly. Acts of violence will not be tolerated.”

In August this year, similar cases were reported in the media, prompting the Police to reaffirm that, in collaboration with the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), the National Prosecution Authority, and the Directorate General of Immigration and Emigration, they have been closely monitoring the issue and have taken concrete measures.

The Police further revealed that in the past 12 months, 240 foreigners were suspected of crimes related to violence and theft. Among them, 64 were deported to their home countries.

At that time, the Police emphasized: “No one is above the law in Rwanda. Anyone involved in acts of violence or any other crime will be held accountable without discrimination.”
