The office of the President of the United States has announced that this Thursday, Donald Trump will host the President of Rwanda and the President of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) at the White House, where the expected to sign a “historic peace agreement.”
This was confirmed by the White House Press Secretary, Karoline Leavitt, during a press briefing held on Monday, December 1, 2025.
Karoline Leavitt stated that President Trump will receive President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and President Félix Tshisekedi of the DRC, and that they will sign what she described as “a historic peace and economic agreement that Trump brokered.”
These agreements to be signed by the Heads of State follow the earlier accords signed by the Foreign Ministers of both countries on June 27, 2025.
The agreements signed by the foreign ministers were meant to be followed by those of the two Heads of State, but the signing ceremony had been repeatedly postponed. However, last week, the two leaders announced that they were ready to travel to Washington to finalize and sign the definitive peace deal.
During a press conference last week, President Kagame stated that he was ready to sign the agreements and that he had confidence in them.
This peace and economic accord between President Paul Kagame and President Félix Tshisekedi also comes after the recent visit by the Amir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, to both countries, during which he met the two Heads of State.
The Amir of Qatar, who has played a mediation role, had earlier brought the two leaders together in talks held in March this year. Those discussions were aimed at rebuilding trust and restoring dialogue, as the leaders of both nations had long been at odds.
The signing ceremony is also expected to be attended by other African Heads of State, including Burundi’s President Evariste Ndayishimiye and Kenya’s President William Ruto.
