The National Public Prosecution Authority (NPPA) has confirmed the extradition of Francois Gasana, also known as Franky Dusabe, from the Kingdom of Norway to Rwanda. Gasana who was born in 1972, in BITABAGE Cell, NDARO Sector, NGORORERO District was convicted in 2007 by the Nyange Gacaca Court for his involvement in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi. He was a student at SAVE Secondary School.
Mr. Gasana was sentenced to 19 years imprisonment by the Nyange Gacaca Court for his role in the Genocide, “The prosecution authority noted.” He fled the country and had been living in Norway before legal proceedings for his extradition were initiated.
In a statement released today, NPPA commended the Kingdom of Norway Judicial Authorities for the extradition of genocide fugitives in the pursuit of justice for genocide survivors and the continued cooperation in matters of mutual legal assistance, and contribution to the global effort to fight impunity.
The extradition of Gasana sends a clear message that justice will not be denied, no matter how long it takes or where the perpetrators hide. The Rwandan government has committed to ensuring accountability for crimes committed during the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, which claimed over a million lives.
